How to clean the group head of your espresso machine

After many shots, coffee residue builds up in the group head. Clean it every 200 shots or as soon as your Sage shows 'Clean Me'.

  1. Put the one-cup filter in the portafilter and place the rubber cleaning disc (blind filter) on top.
  2. Place one tablet or the dose of powder from the packaging on the disc and lock the portafilter into the group head. Fill the water tank and empty the drip tray.
  3. Start the cleaning programme. On most Sage machines, you switch the machine off and hold down the one-cup, two-cup and on/off buttons together. The programme takes about 5 minutes.
  4. If your machine has no programme: run water for 10 seconds, wait 10 seconds and repeat this 5 times.
  5. Remove the portafilter and check whether the tablet has fully dissolved; if not, repeat the programme. Rinse the disc, filter and portafilter, and run water through the group head once more without a tablet.

Caffinity tip: Soak the portafilter and filter in warm water with a tablet from time to time to remove the coffee residue there too.
